The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. Pope goes straight to Basilica after trip to thank Our Lady

2014-08-19

After a twelve-hour flight from Seoul, Pope Francis arrived to Rome's Ciampino airport and headed directly to the Basilica of St. Mary Major.

It's become part of the Pope's tradition, to visit the Patroness of Rome, before and after his international trips. He walked in with a bouquet of roses that were given to him by a Korean girl.

He then placed them under the image of Our Lady, before praying in silence.

Pilgrims and tourists who were visiting the site cheered him on as he left the Basilica.
