The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. Couple receive surprise gift at General Audience for golden anniversary

2014-09-07

50 years of marriage deserves an unforgettable celebration. For this reason, the 7 children of this Peruvian couple gave them a big surprise: a chance to see Pope Francis at his weekly General Audience in Rome.

"I think it's beautiful, but it's going to be so quick, so short...These days will seem like a dream. But very moving.”

Japan, Australia, United States, Cameroon, Spain, Paraguay and Peru. Each of their children live in a different country and reuniting can be complicated.

"It's been years since we've seen some of them. And they invited us to Rome where we used to live because my husband is a diplomat.”

For their children, going to Pope Francis' General Audience was the best way to celebrate their parent's anniversary.

"We've enjoyed, we were very pleased to be here, the weather is beautiful, the spirit was wonderful, people were very giving and we are very happy to be here”.

The Eternal City, they said, has always welcomed them with open arms and have already booked a date to meet again in Rome in less than 5 years.
