Pope sends condolences for victims of Turkish cargo jet crash

January 16, 2017. On Monday morning, a Turkish cargo plane has tragically crashed in Kyrgyzstan, killing dozens and hospitalizing many others. Many homes and vehicles in the small village are also destroyed. As a result, Vatican Secretary of State, Pietro Parolin has sent a message of condolences to the victims of the disaster on behalf of Pope Francis.

Pope meets with delegation from Hebrew University of Jerusalem

This delegation represents the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The group visited the Vatican to meet with Pope Francis and to highlight the need to end a rise in cases anti-semitism in Europe.

"Your Holiness, you made statements against anti-semitism and it's a day to say that one of the ways to fight anti-semitism is through science. We represent scientific work. In this university, delegation, has people coming from all over the world, from Brazil to all countries of Europe.” 

Pope Francis kept his words nice and short, thanking the group in Spanish.

January 27th marks 70 years since the Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated. Many events marking the tragedy are being held in Rome and other major European cities.
