On March 21st, Pope Francis will visit a neighborhood believed to be under the control of the Camorra crime organization. It is in Scampia area in northern Naples. The region has become a symbol for drug trafficking and violence between gangs. The Pope wants to show support for its other inhabitants, who fight against crime.
On the same day, the Pope will also visit the Poggioreale prison and eat lunch with several inmates.
It will be a very busy day. Earlier, Pope Francis will visit the Shrine of Pompeii. He plans to celebrate Mass in the main square of Naples, where Benedict XVI did years earlier. In the afternoon, he will pray in front of relics in San Gennaro. The Pope will also meet and speak to young people by the ocean, in one of the most beautiful places in Italy.
