2015-03-05

On Saturday, more than 60,000 people from the Communion and Liberation movement will gather in St. Peter's Square with Pope Francis. They are visiting from 50 countries to mark the tenth anniversary of their founder's passing. The Catholic organization is also celebrating its 60th anniversary.

DAVIDE PROSPERI
Vice President of Communion and Liberation
"We have requested a meeting with the Pope in every significant moment in our history. It is a way for us to recognize him  personally and as a movement. The Pope is the successor of Peter."

42-year-old Davide Prosperi is married with 4 children and is a professor of nanomedicine. Despite his busy schedule, he is also the second-in-command at Communion and Liberation.

DAVIDE PROSPERI
Vice President of Communion and Liberation
"We have discovered through other people who God really is. He has the answer to the yearning of the heart. Everyone, from any place or circumstance, feels that yearning and feels that truth when it touches their heart. This is our experience."

ALBERTO SAVORANA
Communion and Liberation Spokesperson
"I think the message is still relevant: Christ is the answer for those who ask questions, anyone who seeks understanding of humanity."

Alberto Savorana has written the seminal biography of Luigi Giussani, the Italian priest who founded Communion and Liberation. The book will soon be translated into Spanish and English.

ALBERTO SAVORANA
Spokesperson for Communion and Liberation
"To Luigi Giussani, Christ is the answer to the demands that are stirred in the hearts of men. This discovery changed his life and made him passionate that testimony to Christ is the answer to the needs of each person."

Sixty years after its founding, Luigi Giussani's proposal is still delighting thousands of people, most of them lay, in more than 90 countries.

It is not a different doctrine, but it encourages people to live the faith in a conscious way. It promotes a personal friendship with God, rather than a list of rules.
