The real celebrity of the meeting between the King and Queen of Belgium and the Pope were these crutches. The Pope was moved by the Queen Matilda's effort.

POPE FRANCIS
'I'm sorry that she's injured.'

Wearing white while meeting the Pope is a privilege only afforded to Catholic royalty. Matilda of Belgium decided to keep her official agenda, despite a knee injury from a skiing accident.

The meeting between the King and Queen of Belgium and Pope Francis was highly anticipated. The last one was postponed in December because of the death of Queen Fabiola of Belgium.

They talked about immigration, youth education and the future of Europe. They also discussed other issues, such as social cohesion and the importance of promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue.

The exchange of gifts came after the presentations. The royal couple gave him a ceramic Nativity scene. Pope Francis gave them a copy of his apostolic exhortation 'Evangelii Gaudium' and a medal of his pontificate.

It was their first meeting with the Pope as King and Queen of Belgium.
