Pope Francis to Papal Foundation: It's wise to invest in young people

2015-04-17

Members of the Papal Foundation were in Rome for their annual pilgrimage, and Pope Francis had a special message for them.

POPE FRANCIS
"The wide variety of projects supported by the Foundation gives witness to the ceaseless efforts of the Church to promote the integral development of the human family, conscious as she is of the immense and ongoing needs of so many of our brothers and sisters.”

The Pope also praised the foundation for investments it was making in young priests, religious, and lay people.

POPE FRANCIS
"Wisely does The Papal Foundation devote a sizeable percentage of its resources to the education and formation of young priests, religious and lay men and women.”

These investments would help parishes become more self-sufficient, said the Pope, meaning that their supprt would enable even more good to occur later on.

The Papal Foundation started in the United States in 1988. Its endowment, which is valued at more than $220 million, supports the Pope's mission.
