The Bishops of Benin met with Pope Francis as part of their ad limina visit.
'Here is Benin, the great!'
The Pope gave them all a copy of his speech, where he calls on bishops to promote inter-religious dialogue, especially with Islam. He then went on to describe the country as an example of religious coexistence.
Supporting families should be priority for them, said the Pope. He also highlighted the need for them to promote education. When it comes to the role of the Church, its charitable works, he explained, reflect the mercy of Jesus, making them much more than just social assistance.
He gave a gift to every bishop and one of them responded in Spanish.
Benin has a population of 7.6 million people. Roughly 28 percent is Catholic and 24 percent is Muslim.
