The Pope greeted the German prince, who was accompanied by his entire family, like this. He was expected to greet him in English or German, but this was what happened.
"We are half Argentine, because in 2011 we lived in Buenos Aires for a year.”
"Well, you learned it very well.”
"But I speak with a Mexican accent.”
He then introduced his entire family: his wife Gisela and their four children. One of them carried all the gifts they brought for Pope Francis.
"This is Mauricio, who is bringing the gifts here.”
"We thought it was a very Mexican gift for you. It is a gift from throughout Latin America for you.”
They also brought several books from the Poor Clares of Mexico and the Foundation for Children with Down Syndrome. The Pope wanted to look through the book and he shared these kind words.
"They have amazing capabilities.”
It was the first time that the Pope and the monarch met. He gave each of them a rosary and before leaving asked them to pray for him.
Prince Alexander was recognized in 1997 as the head of the dynastic right to the throne of Saxony. He is also a successful businessman who lived in Mexico City for 30 years.
