General Director of the Legion of Christ: We want to follow this journey and help people

2015-06-14

In the month of January, the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi will celebrate their 75th anniversary. To get things started it kicked off a Jubilee on Friday.

FR. EDUARDO ROBLES GIL
Director General of the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi
"Celebrating 25, 50 or 75 years are opportunities to think about what the next stage is. It's a time to reflect on what we should be doing next. It's a time to give thanks to the fact that we are still here. We thank God for loving us and for still having the excitement to evangelize.”

To prepare for the anniversary, a Jubilee has been organized by the Legion. But it's not just about a celebration. It's also a time to reflect and apologize for its past faults and sins. Also a time to reflect on the future.

FR. EDUARDO ROBLES GIL
Director General of the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi
"We don't celebrate our failures, what we do is apologize for them. I just visited Central America where the presence of the Legion is low. I'm often asked by Legionaries based there to send in more priests. I've been asked about starting a community in Guatemala. That's when I realize that the Legion has given concrete help in some communities and we are recognized for it. We want to follow this journey and keep on helping people.”

The Regnum Christi, which is the branch for lay men and women,  has about 32,000 members and a presence in 30 countries. The Legion of Christ is the branch for ordained priests. They are all dedicated to promoting Christianity so that people may better understand God and his message.

FR. EDUARDO ROBLES GIL
Director General of the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi
"What we are trying to convey is that Christianity and being an apostle is one in the same. The responsibilities and rights of a Baptized person is to evangelize the Gospel to everyone throughout the world. So what is our mission? We want people to feel close to God in their lives. We want them to feel that call and to  transmit that love.”

The Jubilee will conclude on June 3rd, 2016. It will not include elaborate or massive ceremonies, but rather it will encourage participation of its members in so called, evangelization missions in schools and parishes.
