Catholic Film Festival, Mirabile Dictu, to prize top films of the year

2015-06-24

It's called Mirabile Dictu and it's a Catholic Film Festival promoted by the Vatican. More than 1,000 entries were submitted this year, but only nine made it to the final round. Now they're bidding for best short film, best documentary and best movie.

NORBERT BLECHA
Jury
"I think it's wonderful. I've seen so far very good movies and the quality as it seems are very good.”

LIANA MARABINI
President of Film Festival
"We're looking for heroes, stories of faith and hope, especially now because society needs hope.”

The finalists include pieces from six countries, four of them from the U.S. Individual categories include best interpretation and best director. In fact, ROME REPORTS is nominated for best director for its documentary on the life of St. Therese of Lisieux, titled 'The Secret of Therese.”

There's also a so called 'special prize' which will be granted to a documentary film titled 'Madonna del Parto.'

LIANA MARABINI
President of Film Festival
"Madonna del Parto is actually painted on the walls of a parish in Tuscany. This film delves into the story of the patrons who saved this painting. They carried out an exceptional restoration.”

The goal of the festival is to promote Catholic films and ease their entry into mass international platforms. The winners will be announced on June 25th.
