Popes tend to slow down during the summer, as they rest and prepare for upcoming events. And while Pope Francis is spending lots of time privately getting ready for his visits to the U.S. and Cuba, he will also make several public appearances this week.

On Wednesday, August 12th, Pope Francis will lead his weekly general audience in the Vatican. Because of the intense heat in Rome, the audience won't be held in St. Peter's Square. Instead it will take place indoors in the Paul VI Audience Hall at 10:00 a.m. ;

On Saturday, Pope Francis will say a special Angelus prayer for The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Pope is well-known for his specific devotion to Our Lady. The feast commemorates the death of Mary and her passage into eternal life. It is a Holy Day of Obligation and is considered the most important of all the Marian feasts. ;

As he usually does, Pope Francis will also lead the regular Angelus prayer from his studio window, overlooking St. Peter's Square, on Sunday, August 16th.
