The Pope's weekly general audience was held outdoors in St. Peter's Square. The Pope made a few rounds in the Popemobile to greet and bless the crowds, before starting his catechesis.
Continuing on the theme of the family, the Pope talked about why it's so important for families to pass on the faith, not just within their family unit, but also in society.
"Let's not lose hope. When a family has love, that same family has the capacity to warm the heart of an entire city, with its testimony of love.”
For there is no better source to learn about God and love than in the family, said the Pope. He added that it's not just a matter of abstract theological terms, but rather something that's seen in every day life.
"There's so much entertainment. So many things to waste time and laugh about. But love is missing. The answer is the family. It's the family, with a father and mother who work and take care of the kids. The smile of a family has the strength to overcome the desertification of our cities. This is the victory of love and of the family.”
Families that live out their faith with consistency become a living testimony of its strength and unifying power, for when it comes to faith, actions, he added, speak louder than words.
"Where we see affection within a family, actions of love emerge and these speak louder than words. They are actions of love. This is something to think about.”
At the end of the audience, the Pope also blessed all the newlywed couples, as they begin this new chapter in their lives.
