"We live with our faithful, who have been persecuted, crushed, and robbed of everything because of faith in Christ.”

Pope Francis expressed his grave concern for those who face persecution, calling it a disgrace that so many are in danger. He sent a message of support from the Vatican to those most affected in Iraq and Syria.

"Today, the situation in your land of origin is serious compromised by the fanatic hatred of terrorists. It continues to provoke a strong hemorrhaging of the faithful, who run from the land of their fathers.”

The Pope renewed his call for the international community to use all "valid strategies” to establish peace and move from a time of violence and drama to one of respectful coexistence.
