What's the Pope doing for Christmas?

2015-12-24

Pope Francis had the flu last week, but it hasn't slowed him down. And he'll keep his busy schedule while celebrating Christmas.

Here are the key events during Christmas season at the Vatican.

This evening, Pope Francis will celebrate Mass at St. Peter's Basilica to mark Christ's birth. The event will actually begin at around 9:30 p.m.

The Pope will appear on the central balcony in St. Peter's Square at noon on Christmas Day. He'll deliver the traditional "Urbi et Orbi” blessing to pilgrims who gather to see him.

Two days later, on Sunday, he will celebrate a Mass to mark the Jubilee of the Family. Families in attendance will walk through the Holy Door together.

The Pope's last liturgical celebration of 2015 will be the traditional Te Deum prayer on December 31st. Celebrated in St. Peter's Basilica, it's a way for the Church to give thanks for the entire year. Afterward, the Pope will go to see the Nativity scene and listen to Christmas songs.
