The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

Posted robbery video helps nuns recover statue

2016-05-09

The nuns of Saints Peter and Paul church in Williamsburg, New York, recovered this statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus which was stolen from their church, after they posted the video caught on surveillance cameras.

The statue was found in a trash can by a Brooklyn man, who brought it to his mother's apartment. After watching local news reports of the robbery, the two realized this statue was the same one from Saints Peter and Paul church. They called the church rectory and returned the statue Sunday morning.

The base of the statue and the right hand suffered damage, but D'Ambrosio Ecclesiastical Art Studios, Inc offered to repair the statue and will give the church a larger version of the statue as well.

The new, bigger sculpture will be placed outside the rectory, taking the place of the stolen statue, while the repaired statue will be kept inside a new church building, which is expected to be completed in 2019.
