The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

The government of the Order of Malta will elect the successor of the Grand Master in April

February 15, 2017. On April 29, the Council Complete of State, the Order’s constitutional body, will elect the next Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta (or, as provided for in the Constitution, a Lieutenant of the Grand Master, to hold office for a year).

Pope names a Special Envoy for Medjugorje

The Pope has recognized the martyrdom of Jose Alvarez-Benavides y de la Torre and 114 religious companions killed by "hatred of the faith” between 1936 and 1938 in Spain.

He also approved the heroic virtues of:

Vicente Garrido Pastor, diocesan priest, founder of the Secular Institute of the Workers of the Cross (1896-1975. Spain).

Elisea Mary Oliver Molina, founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mary of Mount Carmel (1869-1931 Spain).

Pablo María Guzmán Figueroa (1897-1967. Mexico). He founded the Congregation of Missionaries of the Holy Trinity Eucharistic.

Maria de Jesus Guízar Barragan (1899-1973 Mexico). Founder of Instituto de "Siervas Guadalupanas de Cristo Sacerdote.”

Bernardo de Vasconcelos, Benedictine monk (1902-1932. Portugal).

Antonín Cyril Stojan, Archbishop of Oomuniec (1851-1923. Czech Republic).
