The government of the Order of Malta will elect in April the successor of the Grand Master

February 15, 2017. On 29 April the Council Complete of State, the Order’s constitutional body, will elect the next Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta (or, as provided for in the Constitution, a Lieutenant of the Grand Master, to hold office for a year).

Pope names a Special Envoy for Medjugorje

Pope Francis advances eight new causes of sainthood

January 23, 2017. On January 20, Pope Francis met with Cardinal Angelo Amato, the prefect for the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to announce the publication of decrees for the advancement of eight causes of sainthood.

Pope's schedule: Trip to Assisi for the World Day of Prayer for Peace

On Tuesday, the pope will fly to Assisi to attend the World Day of Prayer for Peace. In this ecumenical event, he will meet with representatives from other denominations, including the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, and the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I. 

On Wednesday, the pope will celebrate the General Audience in St. Peter's with thousands of pilgrims. 

On Saturday at noon he will meet with relatives of the victims of the Nice attacks that took place on July 14. The audience will be in Paul VI Audience Hall

On Sunday, at 10.30 a.m., he will celebrate a Mass in St. Peter's Basilica on account of the Jubilee for Catechists

Later that day, at noon, he will lead the Angelus prayer from the window in his office in the Apostolic Palace.

Other meetings are also scheduled throughout the week, including one with the former president of Argentina, Carlos Menem. Pope Francis will also welcome the new ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Holy See, Sally Axworthy, who will present her credentials to the pope.
