John Paul II, a life out of the movies

Two of them screened in 2005, shortly after his death. The first one was titled ?Karol, a man who became Pope’. It narrates the life of Karol Wojtyla from his tenure in the university until the end of his pontificate. The second film, ?Pope John Paul II?, starring U.S. actor Jon Voight, covered his story from his youth in Poland to his last days in the Vatican. The latest film ?Testimony?, was released in 2008. It’s a documentary with hints of fiction. The story line follows the memories of Cardinal Stanislao Dziwisz, Karol Wojtyla secretary of 39 years. If the depth of John Paul II’s legacy is also measured by its reflection on the silver screen, his films make the late pontiff the most important in the history of the seventh art.EF/MC
