Benedict XVI and President of the European Council discuss current economic crisis

Van Rompuy gave the pope the book “Europe, a Project Outline” and Benedict XVI gave him the gold medal of his pontificate.Van Rompuy has served as president of the European Council from January 1, 2010. The Council is one of the seven leading institutions of the European Union. They are responsible for policy guidance and serve as a collective leadership by setting guidelines and objectives for the European Union.The meeting was also marked by the fact that in 2009 Herman Van Rompuy was president of Belgium, during Benedict XVI?s trip to Africa, and after the pope?s remarks on condom use, Belgium made an official protest.
