Cardinal Ennio Antonelli: World Meeting of Families will boost healthy family life

CARD. ENNIO ANTONELLI Pontifical Council for the Family, President "Family, work and celebration are three fundamental values for a good life. It's a life that people should have and enjoy. The Bible presents them as three blessings, making them permanent. Cardinal Antonelli is the event's main organizer. He hopes that during that five day meeting, families will be able to strengthen their family unit and their Catholic faith. He also wants the meeting to look at modern day challenges that have become more common in the last few years. Situations like couples living together or having children out of wedlock. Cardinal Ennio Antonelli says, over time, and on a large scale, this can have serious social consequences. CARD. ENNIO ANTONELLI Pontifical Council for the Family, President "One shouldn't confuse family with co-habitation. It takes more than simply living in the same house to be a family. It's more than a group of people, under one roof. Family members are inter-connected and have deep seeded roots. Really the family unit is part of a social structure. Cardinal Antonelli says strong families, make up strong societies. It's a combination, that he says, can't be ignored. The family, is in essence, the very first cell-not only of society, but also of the Church. CARD. ENNIO ANTONELLI Pontifical Council for the Family, President "Families transmit culture, religion, human values, social virtues, so it's truly a social mission, not a private one. The role of the family cannot be replaced. This will be the seventh World Meeting of Families. It also marks the second gathering organized by Cardinal Antonelli. The last one he led was in Mexico City back in the year 2009. The Pope wasn't able to attend that year, but this year will be different, since Benedict XVI will travel to Milan to celebrate Mass and personally highlight the importance of family, work and celebration.
