Searching for historical details on the life of Mary of Nazareth

Experts agree, that details on the life of Mary are very limited. So learning more about her,  can be quite challenging. She's mentioned in the Bible in key moments of Jesus' life, beginning with His birth. Hesemann believes the star that led Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem is not simply symbolic. He believes it's based on facts that can be traced back.

MICHAEL HESEMANN

Historian, Journalist (Germany)

"In March 5 B.C supernova appeared in the constellation of the Eagle, according to Chinese and Korean Astronomical books.

But even before Bethlehem, the Bible describes the Annunciation, where Angel Gabriel tells the Virgin Mary that through the power of the Holy Spirit, she will bear the Son of God.  Hasemann says that can also be based on historical Judaism, since back then, wives could choose to not be intimate with their husbands.

MICHAEL HESEMANN

Historian, Journalist (Germany)

"The option that a woman, even a married woman keeps her oath of celibacy if her husband does not officially disagree. So, if the husband stays silent and accepts it. She can remain celibate even in marriage.

So Hesemann says that even though some argue the Bible is based on pious inventions to fulfill the Prophecies, history and culture show otherwise.
