New Generation of Christian Leaders: Young and fully prepared bishops

Among the lists is also the Coptic Pope, elected in early January. Tawadros II is 60 years old, studied pharmacy in Egypt and England. Before being ordained a priest, he managed a pharmaceutical factory. His focus has been on youth development to avoid them being drawn to religious hard liners. The fourth leader, in chronological order is Justin Welby, the new Archbishop of Canterbury, and primate of the Anglican Church. He has five children, and worked for 11 years in the oil industry. He decided to become ordained after his 7-month-old died following a car accident. Within his speeches, he's strongly critical of financial speculation. Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai is the leader of Catholics in Lebanon. He studied Law and worked at a radio. His focus has been on full and sincere dialogue with Muslims to strengthen the future of the Middle East. Interestingly, the most veteran person on the list is also the youngest. His name is Sviatoslav Shevchuk and is the major archbishop of the Ukrainian-Greek Catholic Church. He is only 42 years old, but has a solid education background, and speaks eight languages. Along the same lines is the new patriarch of the Coptic Catholic Church, Ibrahim Isaac Sidrak, is 57 years old; and also the major archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church in India, Baselius Cleemis, is only 53 years old. While they may be unknown to most of the world, they are the point of reference for millions of Christians in the world. JMB @JavierMbrocal /RCarr RR -VM -PR
