Pope celebrates Mass with Swiss Guards: Courage is needed to truly live the faith

POPE FRANCIS ;

“When the Church loses courage, the Church enters into a ‘lukewarm’ atmosphere. The lukewarm, lukewarm Christians, without courage. That hurts the Church so much, because this tepid atmosphere draws you inside, and problems arise among us; we no longer have the horizon, or courage to pray towards heaven, or the courage to proclaim the Gospel.” ;

The Pope talked about the importance of prayer, adding that the Resurrection of Jesus is not something spiritual or symbolic, but something real. To believe, said the Pope, one needs courage. ;

POPE FRANCIS ;

“We are lukewarm. We have the courage to get involved in our small worries, in our jealousies, our envy, our careerism, in selfishly going forward. In all these things, but this is not good for the Church: the Church must be courageous! We all have to be courageous in prayer, in challenging Jesus!” ;

As the Swiss Guards looked on, the Pope said that transmitting the faith starts at an early age. He then shared a personal story, adding that his grandmother played a key role in strengthening his faith when he was a young boy. ;
