Pope celebrates Mass with Confraternities, focusing on the missionary spirit
"You've showed much courage coming here with this rain. May the Lord Bless you.â?
During his homily the Pope thanked all the confraternities for taking part in the Mass. He also called on them to live out their Catholic faith, inviting them to be a so called 'lung of the faith.'
"This is beautiful! It's a legitimate way of living the faith, a way of feeling that we are part of the Church. Love the Church! Let yourselves be guided by her! In your parishes, in your dioceses, be a true lung of faith and of Christian life. Be a breath of fresh air. I see a great variety here. First of umbrellas, and then of colors and signs. It's a symbol of the Church: a variety of different expressions all gathered under one same unity.â?
During his homily, the Pope also talked about renewal and rediscovery. He specifically focused on three points: evangelical, ecclesial and the missionary spirit.
"When you visit shrines, when you take your family there, your children, you become engaged in the work of evangelization. This must continue. May you also be true evangelizers!
After Mass, the Pope made his way through St. Peter's Square in the popemobile. He even went beyond the Vatican border, by making his way to the nearby street of Via della Conciliazione, which is officially Italian territory.
As he greeted pilgrims, the Pope made it a point to greet the sick and their families.
