Coptic Pope proposes to celebrate feast for Catholics and Coptic Christians on May 10

TAWADROS II "May this visit of love and brotherhood be the first of along series between our two great Churches.â? POPE FRANCIS "Todayâ??s visit strengthens the bonds of friendship and brotherhood that already exist between the See of Peter and the See of Mark, heir to an inestimable heritage of martyrs, theologians, holy monks and faithful disciples of Christ, who have borne witness to the Gospel from generation to generation, often in situations of great adversity.â? Pope Francis recalled the common points between the two Churches, and how they've grown despite obstacles. He said it allows them to talk about "ecumenism of suffering.â? The visit by Tawadros to Rome marks the 40 year anniversary of the meeting between their predecessors Shenouda III and Paul VI, which set off dialogue between the two Churches. Tawadros II gave Pope Francis several gifts, including a map engraved in metal that highlights ties between the two Churches, a medallion of the Virgin Mary, that Pope Francis wore right away, and a history map, measuring more than 60 feet long. Pope Francis gave him a papyrus copy of the Gospel of St. Mark. -A little gift. -No, it's a very good gift. Near the end, Pope Francis prayed alongside Tawadros II. Surrounded by the grand mosaic at the Redentoris Mater chapel, in the heart of the Vatican, the Coptic Orthodox delegation sang along traditionally to their psalms. They were joined by the Pope who was still wearing the medallion they had given him. RCG/RCarr RR -VM -u:SCar
