President of El Salvador gives Pope a relic of Msgr. Oscar Romero

Another of one of the major points was that of late Archbishop, Oscar Romero. The  priest was killed at the height of the civil war back in 1980 as he celebrated Mass in El Salvador.

"Let's talk about Msgr. Romero.

"He has helped us a lot, especially as our country goes forward with its peace process.

As a gift, the president of El Salvador gave the Pope a piece of the cassock, Msgr. Romero was wearing when he was shot to death. "With great humility I want to give you this present which was put together by the nuns with whom Monsignor Romero was celebrating Mass when he was killed.

Pope Francis gave the president three medals of his pontificate. He then greeted the diplomatic corps that accompanied the president and gave each one of them a rosary.

As usual, before leaving, the Pope asked the president to pray for him.

"May God bless you. Pray for me.
