Pope meets with President of Cape Verde. Judicial agreement between both states expected

On Monday morning, Pope Francis welcomed the President of the Republic of Cape Verde, ;Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca. ;

During their meeting, both leaders talked about the collaboration between the island and the Holy See in areas like education and health care. They ;talked about the judicial status of the Church in that country. The official agreement is expected to be signed shortly in the country's capital of Praia, during Archbishop Mamberti's upcoming trip. ;

The island of Cape Verde is small, but it also boasts one of Africa's most stable democratic governments and most of its population is Christian. ;

As a gift, the president gave the Pope an engraved silver colored plate and a blue colored cloth. Pope Francis gave the president an engraved image of St. Peter's Square. ;
