Cardinal Simon Ignatius Pimenta has passed away at the age of 93. Born in India, he was Archbishop emeritus of Bombay. Pope Francis sent his condolences in a  message to his successor, Oswaldo Gracias, where he remembered Cardinal Pimenta's "noble spirit.â? In his note, the Pope also stresses the Cardinal's years of service.

The Indian Cardinal is remembered for founding several schools and universities. In his diocese, he also managed 12 hospitals and 44 clinics. He was also the main host during John Paul II's apostolic visit to India back in 1986.

With the death of Cardinal Pimenta, the College of Cardinals now has 203 members. At this point, 112 of them are cardinal electors, meaning they get to vote in an eventual conclave.
