Pope's First Encyclical: Lumen Fidei, an instant hit in downloads and in bookstores

Pope Francis is topping the charts on the internet and in bookstores. His first encyclical, "Lumen Fideiâ?, or "The Light of Faithâ?, has surprised the market since its launch at the beginning of July. On the Amazon website, for example, it features in the top 100 downloads in Spanish and French.

In Italian bookstores, the book topped the charts right after it was published. That's according to this specialist website, that tracks sales in media products.

The encyclical is 100 pages long and is an ideal follow-up to those written by Pope Benedict XVI on charity and hope. Pope Francis himself stated that the text was started by his predecessor, and that all he had to do was revise it and make a few personal contributions. The result is a surely historic document, perhaps the only encyclical ever to be written by two Popes.
