How much does it take to make a giant flag for the Pope? Brazilian group took on the challenge

It took over three months to make, and nearly 26,000 square feet of material. In all, a total of 72 parishes, 18 schools and 11 religious groups worked together to make this giant flag with the face of  Pope Francis. It was completed by hundreds of hands and thousands of well wishes. In fact,  three young Brazilians came up with the idea, to welcome the Pope to their country.

"We began to think about how we could impress the Pope. Since we work in the arts, we thought, 'Lets create a great work of art that the whole world can take part in, and after, let's take it to different places to actually build it.â?

After much work and effort, they arrived to Brazil's Copacabana Beach during WYD. One of the designers, talked about just how big the flag is.

"I coordinated the artistic side. The design was made in smaller pieces. 160 by 5 feet, which were sent to several parishes in Rio de Janeiro and surrounding communities.

And if there's any doubt about the flag's size, the groups Facebook page shows this video of them rolling out the flag inside Brazil's Maracana Stadium. Now, the group is already looking towards the future, and the next goal is to send the huge flag to Pope Francis in Rome.
