Rome ready for soccer friendly in honor of Pope Francis

August tends to be one of the quietest months in Rome, and many years had gone by since a Pope spent the month in the city. As a result, pilgrimages and visitors continue coming here, at a time when the streets of Rome are usually deserted and everyone is away on vacation. But this month brings another unusual sight.

The soccer world will honor Pope Francis with a friendly match between two soccer superpowers. Two team that with their history and impressive rosters, seek to become the best in the world: Italy and Argentina.

POPE FRANCIS

"I thank you for this visit, on the occasion of the 'friendly' match between Italy and Argentinaâ??s national soccer teams. Really, it would be a little difficult for me to be a fan, but fortunately itâ??s a 'friendly.'â?

The match will take place at Rome's Olympic Stadium, an emblematic site that has hosted some of the most important athletic events. The stadium will without a doubt play host to an intense game, which, even though a friendly, both teams said they will give it their all to get the win.

"I'm visiting Rome and I found about the the Argentina-Italy game. I like it, and well, I'm Argentinian, so I hope Argentina wins.â?

In addition to the match the world keeps a watchful eye on Rome, to see what changes Pope Francis will make to the Vatican Curia. But even just by staying in Rome for the summer, the Pope has already changed the pace of life in the city that will host to an international game between two top teams.
