Vatican prepares for first general audience after summer recess
After a summer without Wednesday general audiences, workers prepared St. Peters Square for their renewal. On September 4,Pope Francis will meet with thousands of pilgrims, eager to see him at the Square.
"Yes, we're coming back to Saint Peter tomorrow because there is the public audience.â?
"It will be my very first time, yes, in fact everybody in my group will be the first time.â?
"It's the second time I've been to the Vatican, first time I'm gonna see the Pope. I'm on a holiday with my girlfriend so we thought we'd come and see what he's like. Why not? I'm not religious personally, but I'm open to what other people think. I've never met him, don't know anything about him. I may make up my mind tomorrow.â?
"Well, it is my first time to see the new Pope Francis, and we're coming because we think he's very inspiring and he's open to everyone and he doesn't want to shut anyone out from our fate. So I think it'll be good for us. He's going to be good for the world. So were anxious to see him.â?
The nearness between the Pope and the pilgrims and curious onlookers that attend his public functions has always been highlighted. His indirect, informal and affectionate style has also been well received, and will likely be on display tomorrow. The audience is the Pope's first large public appearance since he called for a day of praying and fasting for peace in Syria, scheduled for this Saturday.
