Vatican Museums: Where you can both see and listen to art

This is one of the many things you can see at the Vatican Museums. And theres also this. During the Fall season, once again, the Vatican Museums will follow Pope Paul VIs idea of allowing visitors, into the museum, beyond its official business hours.

Evening openings now include a live music concert. It's an interesting addition that even Apolo, shown in this Raphael fresco with a violin, would envy.

SANDRO BARBAGALLO

Assist. Director of the Vatican Museums

"It's a joint initiative between the Vatican Museums and the Venaria Palace which is close to Turin. So the orchestra, quartette or quintet that performs here at the Vatican Museum, will also performs at the Venaria Palace a few days later.

Fridays and Saturdays, visitors can enjoy a perfect combination of art and music. But the question is ¿does music sound better when you're surrounded by art?

SANDRO BARBAGALLO

Assist. Director of the Vatican Museums

"Yes, absolutely. This music conveys feelings that helps visitors understand art better. It helps them delve into the beauty that all these masterpieces have. Through these sounds, they are easier to perceive.â?

This unique experience can be enjoyed up until October 26th. During these weeks, young students from the Conservatory of Turin are given the opportunity to share their talents  alongside the work of Michelangelo or Raphael.

So, this Roman night is picture perfect. On the one side there's Laocont, on the other Apolo. Above the sky shines bright with stars, and in the background, one hears beautiful music, set for all to enjoy.
