Pope celebrates Mass with Catechists from different parts of the world

Despite the gray and gloomy weather, thousands of catechists went to St. Peters Square, to attend Sunday Mass with the Pope. During his homily, he said that being a catechist is about keeping God alive. Its about keeping the Gospel alive and reviving faith in others.

POPE FRANCIS

"A catechist is a Christian who puts this remembrance at the service of proclamation, not to show off, not to talk about himself or herself, but to talk about God, about his love and his fidelity.

Reflecting on Sunday's Gospel, the Pope talked about the dangers of obsessing over material wealth. When one forgets about God, he said, a human dimension is lost.

POPE FRANCIS

"Life, the world, other people, all of these become unreal, they no longer matter, everything boils down to one thing: having. When we no longer remember God, we too become unreal, we too become empty.â?

The Pope acknowledged that being a catechist is not easy. He explained that it's a vocation that immerses one's entire life. But in a world obsessed with material wealth, he said it's the power of the Gospel that can keep Christians grounded.

POPE FRANCIS

"Those who run after nothing become nothing â?? as another great prophet Jeremiah, observed. We are made in Godâ??s image and likeness, not that of material objects, not that of idols!â?

After celebrating Mass the Pope personally greeted some of the catechists, who made it to Rome as part of the 'Year of Faith.'

For several minutes, he then made it a point to go beyond Vatican walls in the popemobile, to greet and bless all the people who attended his Sunday Mass.
