Pope renews calls for peace in Syria during Angelus

Sundays Angelus marked the end of the Mass with catechists from around the world at St. Peters Square. But in addition to the thousands of catechists, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch John X was also in attendance.

The Patriarch and the Pope had met for the first time on Friday, when they prayed for ecumenism and Syria. The topic came up once again on Sunday.

POPE FRANCIS

"A special greeting to my brother, His Beatitude John X, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East. His presence invites us to pray once again for peace in Syria and the Middle East.

The Pope also sent a special greetings to Catholics in Croatia. Over the weekend, local Church leaders beatified Miroslav BuleÂ?iÄ?, a diocesan priest martyred in 1947 for speaking out against the Communist government.
