Pope Francis meets with prime minister for St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Pope Francis welcomed the prime minister for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Everard Gonsalves, at the Vatican.

PF: I hope you feel at home.

RG: Thank you very much. I'm so honored to be here with you.

The Caribbean leader made his first visit with Pope Francis. The two spoke about their common values like the defense of life and the family, and inter-religious dialogue.

This is my youngest daughter.

After their private meeting, Gonsalves introduced his wife and two daughters, as well as government ministers that traveled with him to Rome.

As a gift, the prime minister gave Pope Francis as a series of books: including an autobiography he wrote himself, and a volume detailing several of the Grenadine islands. In return, the Pope gave him a commemorative pen.

The prime minister had previously met with John Paul II and Benedict XVI. As they two leaders said goodbye and Pope Francis asked for his prayers, Gonsalves implied he may be hearing from him a few more times.

I will keep in touch with you. God bless!
