Decree for the Causes of Saints

January 27, 2014. Pope Francis signed the decree recognizing the martyrdom of Servant of God Pedro Asúa Mendía, killed in hatred of the faith in Spain in 1936. He also recognized the heroic virtues of: Italian Servant of God Giuseppe Girelli, a diocesan priest who died in Verona in 1978; Spaniard Servant of God Zacarías Salteráin, a Barefoot Carmelite who died in India in 1957; Marcella Mallet, founder of the Sisters of Charity of Quebed, and died in 1871; Servant of God María Benedicta Arias, founder of the Servant Sisters of 'Jesus Sacramentado,' who died in Argentina in 1894; Servant of God Margaret of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Founder of the Franciscan Sisters of the Heart of Jesus, who died in Malta in 1952: Servant of God Serafina of the Sisters Adorers of the Blood of Christ, who died in Brazil in 1988; and Servant of God Elisabetta Sanna, member of the Third Order of St. Francis, who died in Rome in 1857.
