Pope gets ready to create 19 new Cardinals

Nearly one year after his election, Pope Francis will lead his first Consistory for the creation of 19 new cardinals on Saturday morning.

;

;

The ceremony will begin at 11AM at St. Peter's Basilica. It'll include 150 cardinals from around the world. One notable absence will be 98-year-old Italian cardinal-elect Francis Capovilla, who excused himself, citing old age.

;

The other 18 cardinals-elect in attendance will begin the ceremony at St. Sebastian Chapel. One by one, they will go up the altar. The Pope will then hand each prelate their biretta, a cardinal ring, and a papal bull designating each one with a titular church in Rome.

;

;

;

After a mid-day break, the new cardinals will report to Paul VI Hall or the Apostolic Palace, for the courtesy visits 4:30PM. For two hours, they will greet other cardinals, bishops and visitors from their home countries.

;

;

The ceremony will end on Sunday morning, when Pope Francis co-celebrates Mass with all the cardinals, including the 18 newest members of the College of Cardinals.
