SIGNIS celebrates its world congress focused on the new generations and the digital world

Among the thousands of pilgrims that went to St. Peter's to see the general audience, there were 300 Catholic communicators from 80 different countries that are in Rome celebrating the world congress of SIGNIS.

POPE FRANCIS

"I greet all the English speaking pilgrims, at today's audience, including those from England, Denmark, Canada and the United States. I greet in particular the participants in the world congress of SIGNIS.

The Catholic association SIGNIS  is a worldwide network of communication professionals engaged with promoting justice and human dignity. Its congress is titled "Media for a Culture of Peace: Creating Images with the New Generation,â? and will last until March 1.

GUSTAVO ANDí?JAR

Vice president, SIGNIS

"Meeting with the others, and sharing how we live our faith in different cultures, is always very enriching, to each one of us and to the association, that lives from that diversity. So the congress, the encounter itself, is very important.

The congress' program is full of workshops, so that participants can spend time together. It also has conferences, like the opening session where Antonio Spadaro talked about Cybertheology.

The Congress' main focus lays on the new generations that have made a home in the digital world. In particular, the images young people use to understand themselves.

GUSTAVO ANDí?JAR

Vicepresident, SIGNIS

"It's not about creating images for the new generation, because we are not the ones that should do it. The youth is already creating its own images, and so we should just stay by its side. That is also very important, because some things of the current world are not good.

Pope Francis also highlighted the role of images in a globalized world. In a message sent to the participants of the Congress, he asked them to find "a language capable of touching the minds and hearts of countless people.
