Pope Francis meets with Greek President, Karolos Papoulias

Pope Francis met with Karolos Papoulias, the president of Greece, one of the European countries worst affected by the economic crisis. During their audience, they talked about the social consequences of the crisis. In a joint statement, they expressed their concern for the future of Christians in the Middle East, political instability, and that of conflict areas around the world. The two leaders also talked about shared interests like the "legal state of religious communities,� the "role of religion in society,� and "ecumenical collaboration.� Pope Francis gave the president a medallion of the Angel of Peace, similar to what he gave Barack Obama, as well as a copy Evangelii Gaudium.
