Pope welcomes Paraguay president

The President of Paraguay Horacio Cartes made his second official visit to the Vatican on Tuesday. "Your Holiness.â? This time, Pope Francis welcomed him at his office within the Paul VI Hall. The South American head of state took part in Sunday's canonization of John Paul II and John XXIII. The two met privately for half an hour. They talked about the collaboration between the Church and government to tackle poverty and corruption, two of the biggest issues in Paraguay.  "My beloved daughter, Sofia.â? The president introduced his daughter and sister, as well as his government delegation, which included the leader of Cartes' ruling party. As a gift, the president gave Pope Francis white fabrics hand-woven by Paraguayan women, as well as a wooden rosary.  In return, Pope Francis gave him a medallion of St. Martin of Tours, patron saint of Buenos Aires, as well as a copy of his apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium. "All I'm missing is your blessing, Your Holiness.â? "Of course.â? Cartes, like Pope Francis, celebrated the one year anniversary of his election recently. His first meeting with Pope Francis took place last November. "Thank you for everything, Your Holiness.â? RCA CTV VM -PR Up:JRB #Pope
