As the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, the Pope agreed to have his homilies published by a journalist named Federico Wals.  The project was underway, but then all cardinals were summoned to Rome for the conclave. Neither the Pope nor Wals, ever imagined that Jorge Mario Bergoglio would be elected as the head of the Catholic Church.

'In the month of February, we started looking things over and setting the four major themes for the publications. Then, to our surprise on March 13th we found out that our Archbishop was now the Pope. So, you could say it was providential, incredible and of course, surprising.â?

The project continued after his election. In fact when it was all done, he mailed it over to the Pope who gave it his blessing. The publications has now been published in Spanish and Italian.

'In reading these books, I think you can see that he's still the same person. He follows his same line of thought he had before...of course, we already knew him, but the rest of the world didn't. The world is shocked by his simple, plain and blunt language. He's very to the point, clear and concise.â?

From the moment he stepped out in St. Peter's Basilica, his simple language struck people immediately. In fact the books prove that he uses the same analogies and language that he used back when he was the Archbishop.

Journalist
'He invites people into the conversation. He uses common words that everyone can relate to, even using symbolism in some of them. Phrases like 'Don't be spectators of life.' We call these 'Bergoglioisms.' People hear it and immediately understand it.â?

The four themes of the publications are life, witness, mission and mercy, all of which are so far,  hallmarks of the Pope's pontificate.
