Sanctuaries of Fatima and Aparecida will jointly celebrate their anniversaries in 2017

The year 2017 will be full of celebrations for the sanctuaries of Fatima and Aparecida. The first will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady in Portugal. Aparecida will mark 300 years of the discovery of the image venerated in Brazil. The bishop of Leiria-Fatima and the archbishop of Aparecida will mark these anniversaries with a joint celebration. In a press statement, the rector for the Sanctuary of Fatima said that "in dealing with two of the most important Marian sanctuaries in the world, and of two brother nations, united by history and language, as well as the same faith and devotion to Our Lady, we feel the need to celebrate these anniversaries jointly. For the moment, the exact details of the celebrations are still unclear. The only thing confirmed so far is that the bishop of Leiria-Fatima will lead ceremony at Aparecida, while the Brazilian archbishop will do the same in Fatima. With these actions, organizers plan to show the special ties between the two shrines. JRB/RCA RR FA -PR Up: PM
