The #SaveAleppo campaign aims to prevent tragedy of Mosul in Aleppo

Syria lives immersed  in catastrophe for more than three years. Aside from the hundreds of thousands of casualties, the maimed and refugees, it is also the systematic destruction of an ancient culture.  A symbol of it is the city of Aleppo, a heritage of humanity and a crucible of beliefs and background that was an example of coexistence. To save the city from the threat of extremist groups that have plagued it, the Sant'Egidio community has launched the #SaveAleppo campaign.  ANDREA RICCARDI President, Sant'Egidio Community "We propose Aleppo as a city where there is no more shooting, a free city, an area of peace. This is what we have asked the great countries of the world and we also ask the world, is that they help Aleppo not become like Mosul.â? After Cairo and Beirut, Aleppo was the third city in the Arab world with more Christians, totaling 300,000. Today there are some 50,000 who coexistence in peace with Muslims. ANDREA RICCARDI President, Sant'Egidio Community "Coexistence between Muslims and Christians is good in Aleppo. The problem is the threat coming from outside and that Aleppo becomes a city destroyed and trapped by war.â? Nobel Peace Prize winners, such as Desmond Tutu and Adolfo Pérez Esquivel have subscribed. Jewish, political and culture representatives have also joined in.  ANDREA RICCARDI President, Sant'Egidio Community "There are amazing momuments in Aleppo, The Souq, the Citadel, the great Museum. There are 3,000, 4,000 years of history in this city and it has been pulverized.â? "Saving Aleppo means saving a part of Syria and offering a model for Syrians to save themselves.â? It's possible to join the campaign through the Sant'Egidio community's website.  Their goal is to breathe new life into the city. Among the proposals are humanitarian aid for citizens and guarantees of UN security. The Sant'Egidio community know, however, that obtaining is not a political issue but a commitment that requires the involvement of all human beings.  AC/JAE AA SV -PR Up: MPI
