Christmas season is now officially in St. Peter's Square with the installment of this 82 foot Christmas tree.

Once the massive tree was set up, pilgrims and visitors waited for the decorations.

'I think it's beautiful. I think it's a little bit late because December already started, but in the end it's beautiful and the Vatican is beautiful also.

'I haven't really had much of a chance to look at this one, but it looks like it's not decorated yet. It might look really nice when all the lights are on.

The tree is from the Italian region of Calabria and is approximately 70 years old.

Even though seeing the arrival of the Christmas tree was exciting, some are making sure they don't forget the reason for the season.

'I love Christmas decorations. I love trees, they're very pretty, but for me the importance of Christmas and the significance of it is that Jesus came to die for our sins and has made us right with God.

The Christmas tree, along with the Nativity scene, will be illuminated on the evening of December 19th.
