'Services like, listening to the victims and giving them psychological assistance and legal counsel. Also collaboration with local and national organizations that help victims.â?

This press conference was a way to raise awareness about the International Day for Human Trafficking, which will be held on Sunday, February 8th. The Vatican is encouraging Christians to join in prayer and to move from solidarity to action.

CARD PETER TURKSON
President, Pontifical Council for Peace and Justice
'Itâ??s real and for us finding different ways and locations to sensitize and get people to have more knowledge about this and be conscious about this, is very crucial.â?

For many cities, it's a local problem that has global ramifications. The root problem that's often overlooked are clients.

Sister Valeria Gandini highlighted the fact that often it's average people who fund these criminal activities, directly or indirectly. From there, a domino effect follows.

'What can we say to these women and to these young girls who are out on the street nude? What  name can we give to clients who include grandparents, husbands, boyfriends, sons and brothers?â?

On Friday, February 6th,  at 8.30 pm, the Vatican is organizing a candle light vigil in Rome's Basilica Apostoli, to show support for victims and to raise awareness of this global phenomenon.
