Sixteen artists take part in 'Campus, the new musical from Gen Rosso. The main theme is solidarity. Musicians, singers and actors cover topics such as intercultural dialogue and terrorism during their performances. The idea for the project came from Chiara Lubich, founder of the Focolare movement.

''Campus' was born on May 17, 2004 during a conversation with Chiara Lubich. He said it was necessary to address other global issues after the musical 'Streetlight.''

'Campus follows a group of students, each with their own dreams and aspirations. It also profiles their differences and current problems.

'It is set at a university, with characters from various nationalities, origins and cultural and social backgrounds. For example, Jack comes from North Africa. Joao comes from Brazil, with all its problems, from deforestation to the typical Brazilian party.

In the new musical, 23 spectacular dances are  accompanied with video and theatrical scenes. The international team that makes up Gen Rosso is responsible for the entire production.

SARAH FINCH

'We see so many wounds in society, many types of terrorism, and we want to address these problems with this show. We believe that we can build a different world with more equality and brotherhood if we are aware of the problem.'

The group was created in 1966. The origin of its name is an interesting story. 'Gen' means 'new generation,' the Focolare Movement's youth group. Chiara Lubich gave them a guitar and a red battery, which translate to 'rossa' in Italian. They joined words and Gen Rosso was born.
