A milestone decision has been reached between the Vatican and an umbrella group that represents about 80 percent of nuns in the U.S.

On Thursday a delegation of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, met with Pope Francis. ;

After being under review for roughly three years, the Vatican announced that LCWR has successfully implemented the so called 'Doctrinal Assessment and Mandate' issued in April 2012. The report ;included a list of new statutes and recommendations based on promoting Church teachings. ;

The Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith launched an investigation of the LCWR three years ago. The Congregation argued the nuns were straying from Church teachings and focusing too much of its efforts on issues related to social justice and 'certain radical feminist themes.' The overhaul was expected to last five years, but ended after three. ;
