In his weekly general audience, Pope Francis made reference to a special anniversary. On May 7th, 1945 Nazi Germany surrendered and World War II officially ended. The Pope had this to say about war.

'I call on society to learn from the mistakes of the past and that, faced with the current conflicts that are tearing various regions of the world apart, may all civil leaders persevere in their search for the common good and in the promotion of a culture of peace.â?
Back in 2014, on the 100th anniversary of World War I, Pope Francis also highlighted the need to remember the lessons of history and the tragedy that comes with war.
World War II lasted six years, ending the lives of an estimated 60 million people.
